3,271 unarmored transport vehicles UTF mil delivered
In May, according to a statement from the Bundeswehr on its website, the Bundeswehr received the last of the 3,271 ordered unprotected militarized transport vehicles (UTF mil gl) in the 5 ton and 15 ton payload classes. In January 2017, the Bundeswehr procurement office BAAINBw concluded a framework contract with RMMV (Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles) for around 2,271 trucks in the two payload classes with a term of seven years.
Still under the impression of tight financial resources, only 558 trucks were called up when the contract was signed. With the change in the security policy environment and the equipment of operational forces for the NATO spearhead Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), the calls were accelerated compared to the original schedule. As part of the federal government's economic stimulus and future package to deal with the consequences of the corona pandemic, an additional 389 million euros were made available for the procurement of UTF mil in 2021 and 2022. This meant that the delivery volume was increased by 1,000 vehicles to 3,271 logistics trucks.
The Bundeswehr writes on its website that the responsible departments in the BAAINBw are currently examining additional procurement in order to be able to cover the already identified need for additional vehicles.
