Rheinmetall has received an order in the low three-digit million euro range to supply 300,000 35mm caliber cartridges for the Gepard anti-aircraft tank. The order was placed by the BMVg on behalf of Ukraine, as Rheinmetall writes in a statement. Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius had informed the public about the conclusion of the contract two days earlier (ESuTreported). Die Munition ist zur Unterstützung der ukrainischen Streitkräfte bestimmt, die den Gepard einsetzen.
Wie Rheinmetall mitgeteilt hat, soll die Munitionslieferung je zur Hälfte aus Treibspiegelmunition (Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot – Tracer, APDS-T) und Sprengbrand-Munition (High Eplosive Incendiary – Tracer, HEI-T) bestehen. Zunächst werde ab Sommer 2023 die APDS-T- und ab Mitte 2024 HEI-T-Munition ausgeliefert.

Dieser jüngste Großauftrag setzt bei Rheinmetall die Produktionsaufträge für Munition der letzten Wochen fort. Bestellt wurde Gefechtsmunition in Kalibern zwischen 30 mm und 155 mm. Bei den Großkalibern 120 mm und 155 mm fehlt Deutschland bisher noch als Auftraggeber. Sollten nicht bald Bestellungen erfolgen, sind die Kapazitäten vermutlich ausgelastet und die notwendige Auffüllung der –auch durch Abgaben an die Ukraine – abgesunkenen Vorräte kann nicht zeitnah erfolgen.
