Expal expects annual sales of around 400 million euros for the 2022/2023 financial year, around a third of the annual sales of Rheinmetall's Weapon and Ammunition division, which will become Expal's new home. The acquisition is intended to complete the portfolio across the board, for example with detonators and rocket engines as well as medium-caliber ammunition and aircraft armament.

At the same time, Rheinmetall is increasing its independence from suppliers for some preliminary products and ammunition components, writes the Düsseldorf-based company. Also of strategic importance is Rheinmetall's access to ammunition powder production capacities, for which bottlenecks have now arisen in Europe. In view of the foreseeable high demand in many countries, Rheinmetall wants to be in the best possible position for expected new tenders for ammunition procurement.
