Der Rat der Verteidigungsminister der Europäischen Union hat gestern der Teilnahme Großbritanniens am Projekt „Military Mobility“ zugestimmt. Auf Grundlage dieser Entscheidung können nun die Niederlande, die die Projektkoordinierung innehaben, die Anfrage Großbritanniens annehmen. Dies geht aus einer Meldung des Rates hervor.

The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, welcomed the decision and underlined the importance of the project: "Russia's war against Ukraine has once again shown that the ability to move troops and military equipment quickly across Europe and beyond to be able to relocate is essential for our security.” For the EU and NATO, this ability is essential in order to be able to react quickly to crises, Borrell continued.

Bei Military Mobility handelt es sich um ein Projekt im Rahmen der Ständigen Strukturierten Zusammenarbeit (PESCO) der EU.  Ziel ist es, den grenzüberschreitenden Transport von Truppen und militärischen Gütern zu vereinfachen und zu standardisieren. Dies bezieht sich auf den Transport über Land, in der Luft oder auf dem Wasser.

With this decision, the UK becomes the fourth non-EU country to take part in the Military Mobility project. The USA, Canada and Norway joined last year. This brings the total number of project participants to 29. Germany has been part of the project since it began in March 2018.

Die Teilnahme von Nicht-EU-Staaten an PESCO-Projekten ist seit 2020 möglich. Diese Staaten müssen jedoch bestimmte rechtliche und politische Kriterien erfüllen, um teilnehmen zu können.
