The 17 user countries of the Patriot air defense system are investing a total of around 2.1 billion euros in five tranches for the joint further development of the system. The third tranche with a volume of 289 million euros has now been initiated by the US Army on behalf of the user countries. Raytheon was contracted to provide comprehensive engineering services - including system, software and hardware development, integration and testing services - configuration management and logistical support.
Aus dem Projekt „Patriot Post Deployment Build 8.1“ werden eine Reihe Software- und Hardware-Fähigkeiten einfließen. Hierzu gehören:
- New and state-of-the-art methods to search, detect, track, distinguish, engage and defeat a broad range of evolving threats, including tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and combat aircraft.
- Integration of Warfighter-Machine Interface (WMI) command and control technology into Patriot. WMI provides a complete overview of the battlefield thanks to 3D visualizations as well as easy-to-read status pages and search functions.

As part of the agreement, Raytheon will also provide the following services:
- Improve Patriot's resilience to evolving cyber threats,
- Develop solutions to increase readiness and reduce life cycle costs by improving system reliability and
- Replacing obsolete components of Patriot's communications system that will allow Patriot to operate reliably until the U.S. Army's new command and control system for integrated air and missile defense becomes operational.
