Interview with the head of the Swiss Federal Office for Armaments armasuisse, Martin Sonderegger

The military procurement system in Switzerland is characterized by a unique selling point, as all armaments projects are made the subject of a parliamentary resolution, and in individual cases also a referendum.

ES & T: Wie lange gibt es die armasuisse schon als nationale Rüstungsagentur? Wie ist die Organisation strukturiert, und was sind ihre wesentlichen Aufgaben?

Sonderegger:The Federal Office for Armaments armasuisse is the procurement organization of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) and as an administrative unit reports directly to the head of the DDPS. The area of activity ranges from the evaluation, procurement, maintenance and liquidation of systems and material to real estate management in the DDPS to ensuring scientific and technical services. Even if we are increasingly taking on third-party orders for other departments, the army clearly remains our main client.
