The Portuguese Army (Exército Português) has announced that Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) has delivered the first six of 47 MAN TG-mil 4×4 medium tactical trucks ordered. The vehicles, procured through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), are intended to serve as a mobility platform for the tactical information and communications system (Sistema de Informação e Comunicações Tático, SIC-T).

With SIC-T, the Portuguese Army aims to equip its operational units with communications and information systems (CSI) capabilities that ensure interoperability and adaptability in the operational locations and enable them to work in demanding situations and constantly changing operational environments.

The army writes that the vehicle is an integral part of a binomial that consists of the vehicle itself and a communications shelter. Although they are two autonomous systems, they must be integrated so that they form a single system when deployed. The specified requirements ensure integration between the mobility platform and the communication shelter. This is intended to ensure the versatility of the use of the CIS-T systems in the most likely application scenarios.

Some of the vehicles will be prepared to accommodate a crew cabin with ballistic protection level ≥ 2/ 2b.

In addition, deliveries of 61 vehicles from the same series in 6×6 configuration are scheduled to begin this year. The vehicles are intended to transport ISO containers of various sizes and other transport containers using a hook lift system. Some vehicles are equipped with a loading crane. The preparation of a portion of the vehicles to accommodate a protected cabin is planned.
