As part of its strategic realignment, Thielmann AG has divested itself of its Defense & Security activities and sold its WEW division to the Dirks Group. The FalkenSteg consulting company supported Thielmann and the Dirks Group in identifying the shares.

According to a statement from the consulting company, the overall sale structure includes the transfer of business operations, the company property in Weitefeld and all intellectual property rights for military use.

FalkenSteg announced that the transaction was carried out as part of multiple asset deals. After the closing conditions were fulfilled on July 1, 2023, the transfer to Dirks was fully implemented.

The statement also states that WEW, with its headquarters in Weitefeld, is a leading manufacturer and supplier of tank container solutions for the safe transport of liquids in a military context. The main customers include the Bundeswehr, the US Army and other NATO armed forces. With an installed base of more than 3,000 tank containers, WEW is the largest tank container provider for national armed forces within NATO.

As part of Dirks Defense & Security, the existing service business of the Westerwald specialist for special tank containers is to be continued and the production of drinking water and fuel containers for military applications at the Weitefeld site is to be expanded, writes FalkenSteg. To this end, they would like to invest significantly in infrastructure and staffing in the coming years. Dirks Defense & Security is primarily concerned with the manufacture and repair of tank equipment and vehicles for military customers, in particular the German Armed Forces and the US Army, in the defense technology and hazard prevention market segment. The takeover of WEW is therefore a logical strategic expansion of the company's own service portfolio to include the repair, maintenance and production of tank containers.

In addition to the new acquisition WEW, the Defense & Security division of the Dirks Group includes Emdener Anlagen- und Fahrzeugtechnik (EAFT) with its subsidiary Baltic Defense & Technology (Estonia), MWB Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH and Odenwaldwerke Rittersbach OWR.

Marcus Dirks, managing partner of the Dirks Group: "With the takeover of the site in Weitefeld, we intend to strategically expand our activities in the field of tank service and tank construction, especially with ISO containers for military and civilian customers. The Bundeswehr and other NATO armed forces are procuring more and more container vehicles and are consistently switching to mobile tank solutions.”

Among other things, FalkenSteg was involved in the sale of the Elsflether shipyard to Lürssen and the sale of the drone manufacturer EMT to Rheinmetall.
