On behalf of the German government, Rheinmetall will deliver another 20 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukraine this summer. According to the company, the order placed in May is worth in the low double-digit million euro range.

The armored personnel carriers are overhauled in the Rheinmetall plants in Kassel and Unterlüß and prepared for use in the Ukraine. Since recognizing the need for Western armored personnel carriers for the defense of Ukraine, Rheinmetall claims to have started processing the martens in spring 2022, initially at its own expense.

In March 2023, Rheinmetall delivered the first 20 Marders to Ukraine. Around the same time, Ukraine received 20 Marders directly from Bundeswehr stocks. Rheinmetall could make another 60 martens available. These could be refurbished and delivered at a rate of ten infantry fighting vehicles per month.

As part of the federal government's ring exchange process, Greece has been promised 40 Marders in exchange for Soviet-made combat vehicles that the country has sold to Ukraine. Of these, 20 were initially diverted to Ukraine. Rheinmetall has now announced delivery of all 40 infantry fighting vehicles for the summer of 2023.
