Germany will deliver Marder infantry fighting vehicles and a battery of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine. Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden agreed on this in a telephone conversation today. As the German government writes in a recent statement, the United States will deliver Bradley infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukrainian armed forces. Both supplier countries intended to train the Ukrainian soldiers on the respective tanks. According to a tweet from the German Ministry of Defense, there are a total of 40 martens. These are said to come from industrial stocks. According to information from Spiegel, delivery should start in the first quarter of this year.

After Washington announced in December last year that it would make a Patriot air defense system battery available to Ukraine, Chancellor Scholz promised today that he would also supply a Patriot battery to Ukraine.

Angesichts der fortgesetzten Raketen- und Drohnenangriffe auf die kritische Infrastruktur der Ukraine hätten Biden und Scholz ihre Absicht bekräftigt, weiter unterstützend auf den dringenden Bedarf der Ukraine an Luftverteidigungsfähigkeiten zu reagieren, heißt es zur Begründung der Vereinbarungen. Beide Politiker hätten ihre Entschlossenheit bekundet, der Ukraine so lange wie nötig die erforderliche finanzielle, humanitäre, militärische und diplomatische Unterstützung zu gewähren.
