Another 42 Unimog for Lithuania

Die litauischen Streitkräfte haben am 21. Oktober 2021 die letzten von 42 bestellten Logistikfahrzeugen des Typs Unimog U5000 erhalten, wie das litauische Verteidigungsministerium via Twitter mitgeteilt hat. Die Bestellung war eine Erweiterung des Auftrags zur Lieferung von 340 Unimog, die Litauen im Zeitraum 2016 bis 2020 erhalten hatte. Damit verfügt Litauen über 382 moderne Unimog ergänzend zu den rund 160 Unimog U1550 älterer Bauart.

The new logistics trucks, with a military payload of five tons, will be assigned to the Lithuanian Land Forces and other units and will complement the existing fleet of equipment of the same type with which the Lithuanian troops are already familiar. The Unimog are used for logistical support and personnel transport.

The Unimog U5000 is equipped as standard with a 160 kW diesel engine in emission class III or V and is therefore suitable for applications where the supply of quality fuel is not possible. The low cabin and platform enable rapid tactical deployment, for example with a transport aircraft such as the C-130 Hercules.
