As of October 1, 2021, Daimler Mobility AG will be divided into two independent companies: Mercedes-Benz AG for the development, production and sales of passenger cars and vans and Daimler Truck AG for trucks. Daimler Mobility AG is absorbed into the other two companies. Ola Källenius, who has previously held this position in a personal capacity, will become CEO of the higher-selling Mercedes-Benz AG. Daimler Truck AG will continue to be managed by Martin Daum.
Daimler Trucks will continue to include Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks (MBS) in the future, under whose responsibility the Unimog, Zetros and Econic trucks will be manufactured, configured and sold according to customer requirements. This also includes the variants that are equipped according to military requirements and are grouped under Mercedes-Benz Military Vehicles. Whether and how the military versions of theG-Classcan be assigned here has not yet been conclusively clarified.
By dividing the group into two independent companies, customer proximity and efficiency are to be increased. The customer base for Mercedes-Benz is primarily private customers, while Daimler Trucks is primarily aimed at customers from companies, organizations and authorities. Currently, joint ventures and property (documents, properties and, for example, the Mercedes-Benz Museum) are being separated and assigned to the new owners.
There will be changes for customers as the sales organizations are being restructured and partially rebuilt. For contacts between companies, contracts must be concluded, like between two completely unrelated companies. Agreements are no longer permitted for antitrust reasons.
Mercedes-Benz AG and Daimler AG are scheduled to be listed in the DAX 40 on December 1, 2021.
