“More than 80 subcontractors will support the TLVS program. At its peak, more than 6,000 highly qualified employees will benefit from the realization of the TLVS - the majority in Germany. It is envisaged that a wide range of industrial skills will be involved. These include systems-of-systems engineering, cyber security, digitization and the latest radar, optical and electrical engineering. Small and medium-sized suppliers in particular are also involved in TLVS. With its capabilities, the TLVS program will ensure the defense against current and future threats from the air,” said Thomas Gottschild, Managing Director of MBDA Germany. “In recent months we have made progress in further detailing the integrated schedule, relevant specifications and system performance simulations. In this way we were able to reduce the risks with a view to the later contract.”
With TLVS the German Patriot systems are to be replaced. Today's threats require a mobile, fully 360-degree capable integrated air defense system based on an open networked architecture. Added to this are the two (planned) mission-specific effectors that TLVS will use to provide protection against a wide range of threats.
Further information on the technology in TLVS can be found in the defense technology report "Tactical Air Defense System", which was published by us at the beginning of this year. The report can be downloaded here free of charge.
