The Bundeswehr's procurement office BAAINBw recently ordered 1,850 market-available helmet systems for helicopter pilots in the air force and army from the US helmet specialist Gentex Corporation. This means that current needs are completely covered, writes the BAAINBw.

According to the office, the improved shell construction of the helmet systems in conjunction with hearing protection capsules attached to the helmet shell offers significantly increased sound insulation. This results in clearer communication and reduced noise impact on users.

The helmet systems have been extensively tested in several helicopter squadrons for the most important weapon systems. The results of the testing are a prerequisite for the approval of the systems. The certification was completed in November 2023.

The new aviator helmet systems are intended to completely replace the previous helmets. Delivery of the helmets is scheduled to begin in August and be completed by the end of the year.
