Das Joint Venture aus Nexter und Texelis hat die ersten leichten gepanzerten Mehrzweckfahrzeuge 4×4-Serval (véhicule blindé multi-rôles, VBMR) dem französischen Verteidigungsministerium übergeben. Wie die Unternehmen mitgeteilt haben, sollen in diesem Jahr insgesamt 70 Fahrzeuge ausgeliefert werden.

The French procurement authority ordered a first batch of 364 Servals at the beginning of 2021, about which ESuTreported. In the Scorpion armament program, which is intended to renew the French Army's medium-heavy armored vehicles, 689 vehicles are planned in the first phase (by 2025). The number is expected to grow to 978 by 2030. The Serval are primarily intended for light infantry units such as mountain infantry and paratrooper regiments. They complement the range of vehicles, which also includes the Griffon armored personnel carrier and the Jaguar armored reconnaissance and combat vehicles.

Weighing around 15 tons, the Serval comes in three main versions: patrol, reconnaissance and communications relay. What the vehicles have in common is vetronics, the remote-controlled weapon station, threat detectors and the combat information system (Système d'information du combat Scorpion, SICS). With SICS, the Serval will be integrated into the collaborative combat system Scorpion.
