Performance of the IRIS-T SLM air defense system proven
In a test shooting at the end of 2021, Diehl Defense said it demonstrated the technical and operational performance of the entire ground-based air defense system IRIS-T SLM (Surface Launched Medium Range). As the company announced, several test shots were successfully fired under realistic operating conditions in order to measure the performance against the military requirements of modern air defense systems.
The system is independent of the carrier vehicle and has all components fully integrated into standardized 20-foot containers. This means that transport can be carried out by truck, train, ship or aircraft (e.g. in C-130 or A400M). The modular structure enables the system to be configured as needed in use using plug-and-fight, writes Diehl.
IRIS-T SLM complements the shorter-range air defense system IRIS-T SLS in Diehl Defense's product portfolio, which has already been successfully used by Scandinavian customers for several years. In particular, the greater range, accuracy and interaction of all system components and the ground infrastructure were demonstrated in the most recent test shooting, writes Diehl Defense.
With IRIS-T SLM as general contractor, the company offers a complete air defense system from a single source, which consists of the system components fire control center, radar and missile launcher, as well as a complete integrated logistics and support concept (integrated logistics support concept, ILSC).
