Polish defense contractor Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) and Rheinmetall have signed a license agreement to manufacture components of the German company's 120mm tank gun in Poland. As HSW writes in a press release, the 20-year contract also includes the manufacture of the barrel for the L44 smoothbore gun. According to the information, Polish Leopard 2 tanks are to be equipped with the weapons. The country has several hundred copies of the combat vehicle.
Nach Aussage eines Rheinmetall-Sprechers erfolgt die Fertigung lediglich für den polnischen Bedarf. Die Vertragsdauer von 20 Jahren wollte er nicht bestätigen. Rheinmetall und HSW arbeiten bereits seit mehreren Jahren zusammen. So hat das deutsche Unternehmen 155mm-Rohre für die von HSW produzierte Panzerhaubitze Krab geliefert.
