US Army reactivates V Corps as warfare headquarters. The V. Corps, which had been stationed in Europe since World War II, was deactivated in 2013 as part of the army reform at the time. In the meantime, however, the increased danger of Russian aggression against NATO Europe has been recognized. This requires increased contingency planning, including the deployment of larger contingents of troops to the conflict zone.

"The activation of the new corps provides the leadership capabilities needed to ensure the synchronization of US Army tactical formations and allied forces in Europe," said Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville. "The Corps supports the regional headquarters of the US Army and the US forces in Europe in their cooperation with allies and partners."
