Rheinmetall has been commissioned by the German Armed Forces to supply heavy articulated lorries (SaZgM). The first unprotected Elefant 2 heavy-duty transporter is to be delivered as early as 2019, with another 31 to follow in 2020. The order value for these first 32 vehicles is around EUR 28.5 million.
Der Rahmenvertrag läuft über sieben Jahre und umfasst die Option auf die Lieferung weiterer 105 Elefant 2 im Gesamtauftragswert von 122 Mio. Euro für 137 Fahrzeuge. Die HX81 SaZgM Elefant 2 verfügt über einen Achtzylinder-Dieselmotor mit 680 PS, der hochmobile Allrad-Lkw ereeicht so eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 89 km/h und kann Steigungen von 60 Prozent überwinden. Das technisch zulässige Zuggesamtgewicht liegt bei 130 t.
The Elefant 2 has the same driver's cab as the UTF family. If necessary, the cabin can be replaced with a protected variant. The vehicle equipment also includes a double winch system from Rotzler, each with 20 t pulling force.
