The Spanish government has ordered Rheinmetall, the world's largest manufacturer of artillery ammunition, to supply a total of 94,200 155mm caliber projectiles, the company announced yesterday. The framework agreement concluded for this has a volume of around 208 million euros. The artillery shells are scheduled to be delivered to the Spanish Army between the end of 2024 and the end of 2025, with an option to extend by two years.

According to Rheinmetall, this second framework agreement agreed to supply ammunition that is already being used by the Spanish customer. This and the type specification ER02A1 point to Rheinmetall Expal Munitions as the supplier. Rheinmetall only acquired the Spanish ammunition manufacturer in August last year and integrated it into the group.

With base bleed, pyrotechnics reduce the negative pressure on the floor of the floor. This reduces the effective air resistance of the bullet and increases its range.

Rheinmetall is currently significantly expanding its production capacities, especially for artillery ammunition. It was only on February 12, 2024, in the presence of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, that the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant was held in Unterlüß, Lower Saxony, in which explosives, components for rocket artillery and, above all, artillery ammunition are to be produced. On February 18, 2024, Rheinmetall and a Ukrainian partner company signed a memorandum of understanding that will also enable the production of artillery ammunition in Ukraine in the future.
