In recent years, South Korea has become an important defense partner for Poland. Further investments and purchases are planned. However, the new Polish government has announced a review of the signed contracts. This raises legitimate concerns in Seoul that some of the contracts could be revised.
At the end of December 2023, the Polish parliament passed a defense budget. In 2024, total defense spending is expected to amount to 36.8 billion euros, with the Ministry of Defense budget set at 27.2 billion euros. This represents 3.1% of GDP (4.1% if all defense-related spending is taken into account). The technical upgrade is expected to cost Poland at least eight billion euros in 2024. If additional funds are raised through the so-called Armed Forces Support Fund, Poland will spend 19.4 billion euros on defense equipment.
