Slow increase in artillery ammo
Gerhard Heiming
For the first time since the start of the Ukraine war, the Bundeswehr has ordered large caliber 155 mm ammunition for the Panzerhaubitze 2000 after the already insufficient stocks were further decimated by deliveries to the Ukraine. However, the firm orders from the framework agreements with order values in the billions of euros are only small in relation to demand.
The war in the Ukraine has once again made clear the importance of long-range artillery fire in defense and at the same time has shown the high demand for ammunition. Since the beginning of the war, NATO countries have surrendered over 500 155mm howitzers to Ukraine, more than doubling Ukraine's artillery stock.
