According to a statement from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), KMW and the Norwegian procurement authority NDMA have agreed to change the designation of the 54 new main battle tanks ordered in the March agreement to Leopard 2 A8 NOR. The designation would thus be adapted to the designation of the main battle tanks, as used by the German procurement office BAAINBw when purchasing the Leopard 2 A8. The Norwegian Leopard 2 has all the features of the newly defined configuration status Leopard 2 A8.
Die deutsche Beschaffungsbehörde habe die Konfiguration Leopard 2 A8 eingeführt, da es sich um einen Neubau handele und das aktive Schutzsystems APS Trophy (von EuroTrophy) integriert werde. Gegenüber der deutschen Version weist der Leopard 2 A8 NOR zusätzliche Funktionen auf, wie zum Beispiel das integrierte norwegische System ICS/CORTEX von Kongsberg. Damit werden der Datentransfer im Kampfpanzer sowie die Kommunikation mit anderen Kampfsystemen neu gestaltet.
