The Bundeswehr intends to procure multi-purpose combat boats for the sea battalion. A corresponding participation competition was published today by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr on the European award platform TED.

“These boats are required for amphibious, military evacuation, escort, patrol and harbor protection operations. In addition, pallets for storage and transport, spare parts, documentation and training courses are procured," says the publication.

It is intended to conclude a framework agreement with the provider for a total of up to 15 multi-purpose combat boats. In addition, due to the urgency, the procurement of "off the shelf" boats is required, which "have already been introduced in another navy - ideally in a navy of a member or partner state of NATO".

Since a development solution is out of the question, observers of the project assume that it will result in a duel between the "Watercat M18 AMC" system from the Finnish manufacturer Marine Alutech and the "Combat Boat 90" from the Swedish company Saab. Both systems are introduced in the respective armed forces.
