To a certain extent, the Bundeswehr restructuring case could also serve as a symbol for other public institutions that have become precarious over the last few decades. Many of our fellow citizens have the feeling that Germany's infrastructure is working less and less well, from railways and airports to roads, bridges and school toilets to doctor's appointments, nursing shortages and the operational readiness of our armed forces. The political justifications usually boil down to "not enough money" and "not enough staff".
