The general contractor for the delivery of 54 Leopard 2 A7NOR main battle tanks to Norway, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), has commissioned Rheinmetall to deliver key components for the weapon system. As Rheinmetall has announced, this includes the 120mm L55A1 weapon systems, the fire control technology and parts of the sensors. The order value is given as 129 million euros. If Norway orders the optional 18 additional main battle tanks, the order value will increase to 173 million euros. The subsystems will be supplied over a period of five years.

At the end of the day, Rheinmetall writes that the main battle tanks will be completed and put into operation at KMW. After that, they will be handed over to the Norwegian Defense Procurement Authority (NDMA).

On February 17, 2023, the NDMA commissioned KMW to supply the Norwegian armed forces with 54 Leopard 2 main battle tanks in the latest version (A7 NOR). Another 18 combat vehicles are optionally provided. The Norwegian parliament had set a budget of the equivalent of 1.7 billion euros. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2031.
