The Bundeswehr's Patriot air defense systems are being modernized. MBDA Germany supported the Bundeswehr in testing the modernized system for operational suitability, as the company announced.

According to MBDA, the tests lasted three weeks, during which the Bundeswehr, with the support of MBDA experts, checked new software and the first modernized radars of the German Patriot systems for their operational suitability. As part of the tests, the Bundeswehr also used combat aircraft, helicopters and drones to display targets.

The successful test operation in Freinhausen will be followed in May by a test shooting at the US Army's White Sands Missile Range in the USA with the new MSE launch device and PAC-3 MSE rockets. The aim is to demonstrate the improved reliability and expanded functions of the air defense system.

Assuming a positive result, the first German Patriot system will be converted to the new configuration this year. This is followed by the remaining systems, three of which are in Poland and one will be given to Ukraine.
