The delivery of 127 Packbot 525 ground robots to the Bundeswehr should be completed in July, as the manufacturer Teledyne FLIR announced at the Eurosatory armaments fair in Paris. Since 2001, the unmanned robot Packbot has been supporting the armed forces in activities in dangerous environments, such as neutralizing booby traps or working in contaminated environments.

The current 525 model has received new HD cameras and a laser range finder. The 27 kg robot can be equipped with standard batteries for eight hours of operation. Users can integrate their own tools or sensors via open interfaces. The device is controlled via a tablet computer. The radio remote control ranges over 1,000 m and can be expanded thanks to MANET capability. For example, the Packbot can place a radio at the limit of the range, which then acts as a relay to enable radio connections over a longer distance. In order to ensure tap-proof and non-interference-proof operation, communication can take place via a fiber optic cable that is up to 600 m long.
