Reliable communication is one of the most important elements on the battlefield to retrieve reconnaissance results, direct effectors to the target or coordinate with allies.
During international exercises, German units are often positioned next to NATO allies, for example they can see the US company but cannot speak to it. Often this is simply due to equipment that is not interoperable. There are also restrictions due to the terrain and other natural boundaries (environmental influences). At least since Ukraine and the NATO maneuver Trident Juncture 2018, it has been clear that the potential enemy from the east has enormous disruptive potential.
