On behalf of the national procurement authorities DGA (France), BAAINBw (Germany) and DGAM (Spain), OCCAR has commissioned a consortium of Airbus Helicopters, Thales AVS and MBDA in two contracts, the risks for the elimination of obsolescence and for the implementation of new capabilities to minimize. In a previous three-year phase of work, the three participating States had examined Airbus Helicopters and OCCAR technologies and architectures that can meet future operational requirements. The result of these de-risking studies should be used to decide whether to start development of a mid-life upgrade (MkIII) with advanced technologies (eg new avionics suite) and an improved weapon system.
