The Bundeswehr is expanding the framework agreement with RTX (Raytheon) from March 2024 (ESuTreported) by four fire units to a total of eight fire units. This means the contract value doubles to 2.8 billion euros. The budget committee of the German Bundestag approved the contract change on July 3rd. All eight systems are scheduled to start running between 2025 and 2029.
Die Finanzierung von drei Feuereinheiten soll aus dem Einzelplan 14 erfolgen. Ein System wird als Ersatz für die im April an die Ukraine abgegebenen Geräte beschafft und soll daher aus dem Einzelplan 60 bezahlt werden. Letzteres soll bereits in diesem Jahr erfolgen, obwohl die Lieferungen erst später erfolgen soll. Das ist zumindest ungewöhnlich. Für die übrigen drei Systeme ist eine Bezahlung erst ab 2028 vorgesehen, außerhalb des Zeitraums für die Finanzplanung.
Der Beschaffungsumfang enthält vier Radargeräte, fünf Feuerleitstände, 30 Startgeräte und vier abgesetzte Kampfführungsanlagen, die von RTX geliefert werden sowie vier Stromversorgungsanlagen von Vincorion (für knapp 20 Millionen Euro) und 39 Sattelzugmaschinen von Rheinmetall (für knapp 30 Millionen Euro).

The weapon system is currently used by eight European countries to defend against enemy cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and enemy drones and aircraft. At a distance of around 100 kilometers and up to altitudes of 30 kilometers, the defense missiles can hit targets in an imaginary dome around the position - depending on the guided missile used.
According to the BMVg, the Patriot, which has been in use since 1989, will remain the most important system for the Bundeswehr's ground-based air defense capabilities well beyond 2030.
