On June 5, the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag allocated a total of 2 billion euros for four procurement projects. This is used to procure equipment for the army and navy.
155mm artillery ammunition
Yesterday ESuT reported on the procurement of artillery ammunition worth 880 million euros to replenish the Bundeswehr's stocks and for use in Ukrainereported.
Swap charger systems and accessories
From a framework agreement with Rheinmetall, in which the procurement of up to 4,000 protected and unprotected trucks is agreed, 1,250 unprotected and 265 protected trucks in the 15 tonne load class (ZLK15t) are now to be ordered. The order is to be supplemented by 500 swap bodies and 500 tarpaulin or bow bodies. According to the BMVg, the four-axle vehicles have all-wheel drive and are optimized for all military transport tasks, even in difficult terrain. They can accommodate different load carriers such as common container formats or flatbeds and other structures.
Dafür werden aus dem Sondervermögen 920 Millionen Euro bereitgestellt. Da die Lkw bis Jahresende geliefert werden sollen, kann der Mittelabfluss im laufenden Haushaltsjahr erfolgen.
According to the BMVg, 1,008 trucks as well as 2,921 swap bodies and 2,320 tarpaulin and bow bodies have already been delivered from the framework agreement.
Lightweight torpedoes Mk 54 mod0 for P-8A Poseidon

After approval by the Budget Committee, the Bundeswehr can initiate the procurement of 48 Mk 54 mod0 lightweight torpedoes (36 combat and 12 training torpedoes) via the Foreign Military Sales procedure in the USA. As the BMVg writes, these are combat and reusable training torpedoes. The package includes training and documentation as well as other equipment for maintenance and conversions. The approximately 122 million euros will initially be financed via the Bundeswehr special fund and, from 2028, via the defense budget.
The torpedoes will be the submarine-hunting armament for the P-8A Poseidon naval aircraft. Germany is buying eight copies of this aircraft type from the United States (ESuT reportedhere and here), which will take over submarine hunting and maritime reconnaissance from the P-3C Orion as an interim solution until the German-French cooperation project Maritime Airborne Warfare System (MAWS) can take over these tasks.
Already in 2020, the Bundeswehr purchased 64 Mk 54 lightweight torpedoes worth 115 million euros to equip the P-3C Orion (ESuTreported).
Infrastructure for new Maritime Operations Center
The fourth project is the reconstruction of a Maritime Operations Center, which will become the “operations center” for the fleet worldwide, as the BMVg writes. The almost 100 million euros required for the infrastructure investment will be financed from the special fund. The project brings together the operational capabilities of the naval command, which are currently located in Glücksburg, in the Hanseatic Barracks in Rostock.
According to the BMVg, this involves setting up the Maritime Operations Center (MOC), the Fleet Entry Point (FEP) and the Maritime Component Command (MCC), primarily with IT equipment. The current standards of leadership capability in the new naval command building in Rostock should be achieved by the end of 2025. A year later, these standards will even be available in expanded form.
