Joint venture between Singapore and Saudi Arabia for drone defense
The “World Defense Show (WDS) 2024” arms trade fair is currently taking place in the Saudi capital Riyadh. Takes itthe TRD Systems Pte Ltd from Singapore, which specializes, among other things, in anti-drone products from the “Orion” model series. Ahead of the WDS, TRD has for the first time established a joint venture with a local Saudi partner to offer local production of the portable drone defense systems in the Kingdom.
„Der Mittlere Osten, insbesondere Saudi-Arabien“, so Sam Ong, CEO und Gründer des singapurischen Herstellers, in diesem Zusammenhang, „ist der Markt mit höchster Priorität für TRD im Jahr 2024.“ Besonderer Bedarf an Anti-Drohnen-Systemen besteht aktuell vor der saudischen Küste aufgrund der Drohnenattacken der pro-iranischen Huthi-Milizen auf die internationale Handelsschifffahrt im Roten Meer.

Die „Orion“-Systeme können einerseits mobil auf einem Fahrzeug oder einem Schiff montiert oder andererseits ortsfest installiert werden. Außerdem ist der tragbare Drohnenstörsender „Orion-H9“ zu nennen, der nach Unternehmensangaben „das weltweit erste Neun-Band-‚Handheld‘-Drohnen-Störsystem ist“, das gegen die meisten kommerziellen Drohnen und auch gegen militärische Drohnen wirksam sei.
60 employees work at TRD's headquarters and manufacturing facility in Singapore, supported by a regional office in the ASEAN partner country Thailand. The company was founded in 2011 and has been working on drone defense since 2015.
