Skyranger 30 air defense system on the way to series production

In view of the high demand for air defense systems, Rheinmetall is - among other systems - pushing forward the development of the mobile air defense system Skyranger 30. As the company announced, the system in the A1 configuration was recently able to demonstrate in a test and shooting campaign at the Ochsenboden test site in Switzerland. that it can engage a wide range of targets both while stationary (on the beach) and while driving.

Die flexible Auslegung der A1 ermögliche die effiziente Erprobung und Optimierung verschiedener Kundenvarianten mit unterschiedlichen Radaren und Effektoren. Dies sei im Hinblick auf die bevorstehende zeitnahe breite Einführung des Skyranger 30 in verschiedenen europäischen Nutzernationen von großem Vorteil.

Der Skyranger 30 A1 ist nach Angabe von Rheinmetall ein Entwicklungsträger, der den Weg zur Gesamtsystemqualifikation des Skyranger 30 A3 Mitte 2024 ebnet. Der Skyranger 30 A3 werde aktuellen und künftigen Bedrohungen aus der Luft – zum Beispiel auch durch Drohnen – entschieden entgegentreten und es den Bodentruppen erlauben, sich auf ihre eigentliche Aufgabe zu fokussieren.

According to the manufacturer, the hallmarks of the system are the well-thought-out design of a wide range of effective means, high dynamics and a large elevation range, as well as state-of-the-art sensors that enable both autonomous and networked use. The compact design of the tower allows integration on various manned and unmanned platforms, such as the 8×8 Boxer wheeled tank. The Skyranger 30 closes the current acute capability gap in mobile air defense.

The Skyranger 30 turret is currently the subject of several procurement projects. According to Rheinmetall, Hungary has commissioned the conceptual development of the Skyranger 30 turret for the future anti-aircraft variant of the Lynx KF41 tracked vehicle (ESuTreported). Germany intends to procure 18 Skyranger 30s on the GTK Boxer between 2025 and 2027. Denmark has ordered an undisclosed number of Skyranger 30 turrets for integration on 8×8 Piranha wheeled tanks (ESuTreported).
