In order to close the capability gap in ground-based air defense through the air defense system for short and near range protection (LVS NNbS), the army is to receive three new Boxer variants as part of the modular system in the foreseeable future. As ARGE NNbS, a 2021 merger of the companies Rheinmetall Electronics, Diehl Defense and Hensoldt Sensors, announced in a press release on August 24th, a contract for the development of the LVS NNbS has been finally negotiated. After parliamentary approval, the contract could be signed later this year.
