The overall ground-based air defense system must have a mix of systems with complementary capabilities that are quantitatively and qualitatively tailored to future threats. The system's complementary sensors enable the earliest possible detection of aerial threats. Effectors with different ranges and operating principles enable the establishment of overlapping interception layers and thus the timely combating of threats. In the future, the lowest interception layer of ground-based air defense will be the close and immediate area protection air defense system.
