First of all, to avoid being misunderstood: Decisions on arms exports - especially to so-called third countries outside the EU, NATO or NATO-equivalent countries - are and will remain exclusively a matter for the Federal Government. According to the applicable "Political Principles of the Federal Government for the Export of War Weapons and Other Military Equipment", such decisions follow exclusively the foreign and security policy maxims of the Federal Government. They are therefore always fully respected by the industry as state decisions, because it is also in the interest of the industry that weapons of German origin must not fall into the "wrong hands".

Nevertheless, such decisions have an impact both on Germany's ability to cooperate in European armaments projects and on Germany's reputation as a reliable foreign and security policy partner vis-à-vis customer countries and vis-à-vis European partners.
