What has become of the initiatives to improve equipment for the Bundeswehr since then?
Under the direct impression of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and the government statement by Chancellor Scholz on February 27, 2022, the Ministry of Defense had called on companies in the German security and defense industry in two video conferences on the following days to urgently discuss three strands of action to activate:
- related to possible measures to support Ukraine,
- for the direct, immediate improvement of the Bundeswehr's operational readiness and
- to implement the special fund announced by the chancellor, the 100 billion euros.
Out of concern for further, unforeseeable developments, a special focus was on improving the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr, namely in the form of additional spare parts, through shortened maintenance programs or others
