Die ersten in Großbritannien gefertigten Boxer für das Beschaffungsprojekt Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) gehen in die offizielle Abnahmeprüfung durch die British Army, wie der Hersteller ARTEC auf Twitter mitgeteilt hat. Der Mitteilung zufolge begannen die ersten offiziellen Versuche mit der Durchführung einer Reihe von Sprengversuchen mit einem repräsentativen britischen Boxer-Fahrzeug Anfang dieses Jahres.
Das Programm habe nun die nächsten wichtigen Meilensteine erreicht, da eine erste formale Reihe von Verifizierungs- und Validierungsversuchen abgeschlossen sei und Versuche zur Risikominimierung durch die Industrie begonnen hätten, so die ARTEC weiter. Der erste im Vereinigten Königreich montierte Boxer-Prototyp (Command-Variante) sei im April in Deutschland in der Industrie getestet worden, bevor er nach Großbritannien geliefert wurde, wo die offizielle Abnahmeprüfung durch den Kunden begonnen hätten.
The assembly of two other British Boxer prototypes has also been completed, including the infantry and special transport variants, writes ARTEC. The infantry transport prototype has started homologation in Germany and the special transport prototype will begin its in-house industry testing phase in Millbrook, UK in July this year, with official verification and validation scheduled for early autumn in Millbrook.
2019 haben die britische Regierung, vertreten durch die internationale Beschaffungsorganisation OCCAR, und die ARTEC, ein Konsortium aus Rheinmetall und dem KNDS-Unternehmen Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), einen Vertrag für das Beschaffungsprojekt MIV unterzeichnet. Darin ist die Lieferung von 523 gepanzerten Transportfahrzeugen Boxer vereinbart. Die Anzahl der Fahrzeuge wurde im Januar 2022 um 100 Boxer erhöht.
Great Britain is the first nation to receive the Boxer in version A3. Characteristics of the version are the maximum combat weight of 38.5 tons, reinforced axles with new wheels and more durable tires as well as the diesel engine increased to 600 kW. (Wheels and tires become standard on all boxers of all versions.)
In order to ensure the required predominant added value in Great Britain, the vehicles from the 106th example will be manufactured by the British companies RSBL and WFEL, among others. RSBL is a joint venture between Rheinmetall and BAE Systems Landsystems. WFEL is a 100 percent subsidiary of KNDS/KMW.
After the start of production in Germany with a total of 105 Boxer vehicles, a production rate of at least sixty vehicles per year is to be achieved in Great Britain.
