According to a statement from Diehl Defence, the Ukraine has received the second IRIS-T SLM fire unit. Two fire units were handed over to the customer within just six months, significantly improving its defensive capabilities. Diehl attributes the rapid qualification, training and delivery cadence to the partnership with Airbus and Hensoldt.

Diehl Defense is the general contractor and system integrator of all components for IRIS-T SLM; the company also supplies the launcher and the guided missiles. Hensoldt contributes the TRML-4D multifunction radar. The command post software IBMS-FC (Integrated Battle Management Software Fire Control) comes from Airbus.

According to Diehl, the IRIS-T SLM system has demonstrated excellent performance under combat conditions since it went into service in the Ukraine. According to customer statements, the system achieved a hit rate of 100 percent even in attack waves with more than twelve targets.

Diehl points out that the joint solutions from Diehl Defence, Airbus and Hensoldt, as purely German systems, are not dependent on foreign technology and therefore offer the highest level of approval and certifiability for operation in Germany and also the highest possible security of supply.

Germany plans to procure six fire units IRIS-T SLM. After parliamentary approval before the summer break in 2023, it is planned to agree on the delivery of the systems in a contract with Diehl between 2024 and 2027.
