The decision by the European Defense Fund (EDF) last July to award the EU HYDEF research program for the development of a missile to defend against hypersonic weapons to a consortium led by the Spanish company Sener Aerospacial and under the technical management of Diehl Defense came as a surprise to many observers .

D.Because many experts in specialist circles had expected that a consortium led by the European guided missile manufacturer MBDA would be awarded the contract for the approximately 110 million euro project. Not least because MBDA is technically well advanced in some core competencies such as the drive. The European guided missile manufacturer itself was apparently caught on the wrong foot by the selection and finally filed a lawsuit against the EU's decision after a few months of deliberation.
