In a Europe marked by war and the resulting energy crisis, cooperation between Germany and the Nordic countries is intensifying. It wasn't until mid-August that Chancellor Olaf Scholz traveled to the Norwegian capital Oslo to meet the heads of government of the five Nordic countries - Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden - as part of the Nordic Council.
NOf course, discussions about even closer cooperation between the six states, which have already had friendly ties for a long time, were among the main topics. The impending accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO will open a completely new chapter in defense and security cooperation in Northern Europe. This not only affects the Nordic region, but also the relationship with its allies, and Germany is at the forefront here - not least because of its location.
