The Swedish optics specialist Aimpoint presented its new Duty RDS sight in a global online event in mid-January 2022. Measuring 80mm long, 38mm wide, 67mm high, and weighing 161 grams, the Aimpoint Duty RDS offers a bright, sharp red dot with 2 MOA coverage. This has proven to be practical for short to medium distances. The windage and height adjustments are flush with the housing and are waterproof, so no protective caps are required. The adjustment wheels provide audible “clicks” to make adjusting the optics easier. The Aimpoint Duty RDS offers four night vision and six day vision brightness levels. The brightness level switch is designed as a new digital keypad that can be easily operated even when wearing gloves.

The housing is made from a pressure-forged aluminum alloy and is therefore resistant to extreme stress and strong temperature fluctuations. The visor is vibration and shock resistant and waterproof to a diving depth of 25 meters. According to the manufacturer, the ACET technology, powered by a CR2032 battery, enables an operating life of over three years at the highest daylight setting 7 and even longer at the night vision compatible settings.

With its International Reference Price, the Aimpoint Duty RDS is significantly cheaper than a comparable Aimpoint Mirco-T2. With the Duty RDS, Aimpoint is primarily targeting the government market in the USA, but it should also attract interest in Europe. Especially for customers in the government sector who are not dependent on the toughest Mil-Spec standards, this opens up an option for equipping even larger handgun inventories with the product from a well-known manufacturer. The optics will be available in Europe from the third quarter of 2022.
