The Bundeswehr's IT service provider, BWI GmbH, develops under the name ROLLT! a software that could make route planning and navigation for Bundeswehr vehicles digital in the future - and thus much easier and more efficient.

So far, route planning and checking of suitable routes for transport operations has mostly been carried out manually, writes the BWI. This means a lot of work and leads to inefficient route planning and inaccurate arrival times. In addition, there is currently no digital navigation support while driving.

In order to optimize the Bundeswehr's route management in the future, the BWI says it is combining it with ROLLT! Intelligent routing based on validated current data from the civil sector with “positioning services” (e.g. GPS). Algorithms can automatically calculate the optimal route based on vehicle specifics stored in a military vehicle database as well as current infrastructure, road and traffic data. This will help you ROLL! for the Bundeswehr a uniform, digital route management that can be used online and offline on mobile devices and creates enormous added value for the troops.

“With ROLLS! "We have the opportunity to intersect military and current civilian map data and provide adequate, parameterized routing and navigation support for all Bundeswehr transports into the digital 21st century - especially with regard to the challenges as an alliance partner," explains Dr. Sören Schäfer, Senior Innovation Manager of the BWI experiment ROLLT!.

The idea for ROLLT! originally came from Logistics Battalion 161, which, like the Bundeswehr logistics center, was involved in development and testing.

The BWI has the first operational prototype of ROLLT! Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius presented it on July 17th during his visit to the Bundeswehr logistics command in Erfurt.

The development and testing phase of ROLLT! According to the BWI, it has already been completed. The Bundeswehr is currently examining specific possible uses for the application.
