An independent study published today by Strategy&, part of the PwC network, has revealed the impressive scale of the Eurofighter Typhoon program's contribution to European economies. The detailed report examines the entire spectrum of development, production and maintenance activities and covers the four Eurofighter Typhoon partner nations Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain.

This study provides a comprehensive insight into the program and provides compelling data that illustrates the current economic benefits of the program and anticipates future economic contributions. The focus of the study is a look at the next ten years.

The so-called “base scenario” takes into account orders for new Eurofighter Typhoon from Spain (Halcón I and II) and Germany (Quadriga). This scenario shows that the program will contribute €58 billion to the GDP of the four core economies over the next decade, generate €14 billion in tax revenues for their respective governments and support 62,700 high-tech jobs annually.

These figures rise significantly in the report's so-called "growth scenario", which takes a closer look at the socio-economic consequences of selling around 200 Eurofighter Typhoons on both the domestic and export markets.

Giancarlo Mezzanatto, CEO of Eurofighter Jagd Flugzeug GmbH, said: “The crucial role that the Eurofighter Typhoon plays in the security of Europe's airspace is well known, but what people often fail to realize is the incredible economic benefits that the program also brings less conscious. The Eurofighter Typhoon program directly boosts Europe's economies and supports tens of thousands of important jobs in the local aerospace industry - benefiting the communities in which we live and work. There are also significant spillover effects in regions where Eurofighter production lines are located and where the program often supports medium-sized companies, start-ups and educational institutions.”

Therefore, new orders for the Eurofighter Typhoon are crucial in order to keep the defense industry's skills and production facilities in Europe. This will guarantee the core nations national and European technological independence over a long period of time.

Further data published in the Strategy& report shows that the contribution for the four core nations over the entire operational life of a single Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft is around 407 million euros in GDP and around 100 million euros in taxes.

Executives from Eurofighter partner companies (EPCs) – Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo – have confirmed the benefits of the Eurofighter Typhoon program and illustrated them in the Strategy& study.
