On August 29th, a new workboat for the Defense Technical Department 71 (WTD 71) was named “Holstein” at the TAMSEN MARITIM shipyard in Rostock, as the shipyard wrote in a press release. The boat is the second of two identical new buildings that were commissioned from TAMSEN MARITIM by WTD 71 in Eckernförde.

Die beiden STS-Boote (Sicherung, Transport, Schleppen) der Klasse 744, jeweils 20 Meter lang, wurden von dem Schiffbaubetrieb an der Warnow selbst entwickelt und sollen für das Schleppen von Marineschiffen, die Absicherung von Seegebieten, den Personentransport sowie die Unterstützung von Forschungsmissionen verwendet werden. Sie bieten außerdem die Möglichkeit zum Einsatz von Unterwassergeräten und Tauchern. Die Taufpatin des STS-Boots „Holstein“ ist Regierungsamtsrätin Eva Christina Haack von der WTD 71.
The first STS boat named “Schleswig” was christened in the spring of this year. The ships were built in a collaborative effort at the SET Tangermünde shipyard in Saxony-Anhalt due to capacity reasons. The keel of both workboats was laid there over a year ago.
The shipyard in Rostock employs around 130 people and has been a contact for maintenance, modernization and repair of medium-sized special ships for decades. Currently, ships such as the mine-hunting boat “Homburg”, the training hulk “exEnsdorf” and the naval harbor tugs “Lütje Hörn” and “Vogelsand” are at the shipyard for maintenance and repair work.
