Future Combat Air System - Status of the New Generation Weapon System project
Captain Marc Bedau
Phase 1B of the Next Generation Weapon System (NGWS) technology program was able to start at the beginning of 2023 after lengthy negotiations, including between the two main contractors Airbus D&S and Dassault Aviation. It is now a matter not only of making progress in technological developments, but also of fulfilling the cooperation requirements that were laid down, among other things, in a resolution passed by the Bundestag.
NGWS is intended to become the backbone of the French, Spanish and German air forces from 2040 and represent a survivable and assertive weapon system. This ambitious goal can only be achieved together.
