Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has selected Hensoldt UK to supply Kelvin Hughes Mk11 SharpEye navigation radars to the Philippine Navy, according to a recent company press release. The radars will be installed on six 2,400-ton offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) and two 3,200-ton corvettes currently under construction at HHI and scheduled for delivery over the next four years. The SharpEye Mk11 radars are IMO certified and operate in conjunction with an integrated navigation bridge system to provide enhanced navigation and surface surveillance capabilities. The use of carbon fiber and a direct-drive motor system instead of an antenna rotary gearbox ensures easy installation, high reliability and lower maintenance costs, according to the manufacturer.
