Yesterday evening the first K2 battle tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers arrived in the Polish port of Gdynia by ship from South Korea.

The Polish armed forces took over the combat vehicles in a ceremony with the Polish Prime Minister and the Defense Minister and a representative of the South Korean side, as the Polish Ministry of Defense announced via Twitter. The first route takes vehicles to workshops where Polish equipment such as communication and command devices will be installed. Then the vehicles will be handed over to the troops, who will familiarize themselves with the vehicles as part of the training. It should be a few months before the first units with the new main battle tanks and howitzers are reported to be “combat ready”.

In July, Poland concluded framework agreements for the procurement of up to 1,000 K2 main battle tanks and a first batch of 180 tanks, including logistics and training components (ESUT reported). At the same time, 212 K9 self-propelled howitzers with the same peripherals were ordered. Deliveries are scheduled for 2026.
