New defense policy guidelines – the Bundeswehr should be fully combat-ready
Lars Hoffmann
The Bundeswehr, as the German core instrument against military threats, must “be capable of war in all areas”. This emerges from the new defense policy guidelines that Defense Minister Boris Pistorius presented at the Bundeswehr conference at the beginning of November.
The guidelines are intended to form the foundation for the future military capabilities of the Bundeswehr and act as guidelines for structures, leadership culture, personnel recruitment, equipment and training, as the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, General Carsten Breuer, puts it. “On its basis, we are forming a new, common self-image of defensiveness and military capability,” said Breuer.
